Paul Matysek is a corporate entrepreneur carrying over 30 years of corporate experience in creating shareholder value. Paul is currently the Executive Chairman of Lithium X Energy (TSX-V: LIX), which received an all-cash offer for $265M from Hong Kong based NextView New Energy in December 2017, just one of many successful M&A deals he has led. Paul was also founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Energy Metals, increasing its market capitalization from $10M in 2004 to $1.8B when it was acquired by a uranium producer in 2007. He has previously held the position of President & Chief Executive Officer of Goldrock Mines which sold to Fortuna Silver Mines for $178M. Other successful deals include Lithium One’s merger with Galaxy Resources via a $112M integration plan, Potash One’s sale to K+S for $434M.
Guy Halford-Thompson is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (2015-2017) of BTL Group (TSX-V: BTL), a highly innovative Blockchain technology company that has built Interbit, BTL’s Blockchain platform. Interbit is an open, multi-chain, asset settlement platform with a suite of APIs and smart contracts that allow businesses from across the world to provide global access to fast, secure and auditable financial and asset trading services. He is also the Chairman of Neptune Dash Technologies (TSX-V: DASH), a builder and operator of Dash Masternodes. Additionally, Guy is a co-founder of QuickBitcoin, a Bitcoin trading company that introduced Bitcoin ATM’s to the UK in 2013. Guy is both a thought leader and entrepreneur in the Canadian Blockchain eco-system.
A Chartered Accountant by trade, Darius Eghdami is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and has successfully exited multiple companies. Darius has previously founded and led multiple businesses in digital, data analytics, and the consumer internet. Darius founded FansUnite in 2012, the first social sports book harnessing the power of Blockchain technology. Darius has extensive experience managing companies, raising capital, and developing overall vision and business frameworks. Additionally, Darius was recently named one of Canada’s Next 150 Top Entrepreneurs by the TMX Group.
Rahim Rajwani brings over 22 years of extensive public and private company experience to Block X Capital. Rahim began his career at Yorkton Securities, and then later moved on to Union Securities where he worked as Chief Compliance Officer and Vice President of Compliance with a primary focus on risk mitigation. Rahim served in successive roles of increasing responsibility at Salman Partners, moving from Chief Compliance Officer, to Vice President, to Managing Director. Rahim aims to bestow his deep expertise in the regulatory, compliance, risk mitigation, and M&A transaction fields in order to support Block X’s process of identification, evaluation, and investment in the most promising Blockchain and emerging technology companies.
Michele Romanow is a serial entrepreneur who started three companies before her 30th birthday. A “Dragon” on CBC’s hit show Dragons’ Den, she is a co-founder of Buytopia.ca (acquired by EMERGE Commerce), SnapSaves (acquired by Groupon)(NASDAQ: GRPN), and co-founder of Clearbanc, an online financial services platform. She is a Director for Whistler Blackcomb (acquired by Vail Resorts)(NYSE:MTN), Freshii (TSX:FRII), and SHAD Valley. Furthermore, Michele was included in the WXN’s “100 Most Powerful Women in Canada”, Forbes “Millennial on a Mission” list, and winner of the Toronto Board of Trade Award for entrepreneurs under 30.
Cale Moodie is currently Chief Executive Officer & Director of Neptune Dash Technologies (TSX-V: DASH), a builder and operator of Dash Masternodes and exclusive public investor in the Dash digital currency eco-system. He is also a co-founder of Brixton Metals (TSX-V: BBB). Previously, Cale was the Chief Financial Officer of Underworld Resources Inc. until its sale to Kinross Gold (TSX: K) in June of 2010. Prior to becoming a successful public market executive of multiple companies, Cale worked for KPMG LLP’s Vancouver Industrial Markets Group, with an emphasis on audits for mining and resource-based companies. Cale holds the CPA designation and is a graduate of the University of British Columbia.
A corporate and securities lawyer by background, Zyshan Kaba is a venture investor and advisor that focuses on financial technology, blockchain, and cryptoassets. With a deep interest in disruptive technology and emerging markets, he focuses on early stage technology companies and his experience covers a variety of areas, including legal counsel, business and regulatory strategy, product development, market research, token sale structuring and analysis, and raising venture capital. Zyshan is also a former executive of a venture backed financial technology company where he was Head of Business and Legal Affairs. Zyshan received his J.D.from the University of Toronto and is called to the bar in Ontario and the state of New York.
Hamed Shahbazi is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer of payment solution provider TIO Networks which sold to PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) for C$304M in 2017. Hamed also carries extensive M&A experience through TIO Networks having closed 3 strategic acquisitions since 2014. Hamed was also one of the first investors in BroadbandTV, a digital entertainment company that connects content owners, content creators, audiences, and advertisers. Hamed was named CanTech Letter’s “Exec of the Year” from 2014-2016 and TIO Networks the TSX Venture Tech “Stock of the Year” two years in a row (2014-2015). He was also included in Business in Vancouver’s prestigious “Forty Under 40” award winner, and won the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 in the pacific region.
Anatoliy Melnichuk is a Serial Entrepreneur & Investor. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of SnapSaves.com, a disruptive mobile app enabling CPG’s to target consumers directly which was acquired by Groupon (NASDAQ: GRPN) in 2014. Anatoliy was also co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Buytopia.ca (acquired by EMERGE Commerce) and also manages a private equity portfolio with business partner, Michele Romanow. Buytopia ranked #3 on Profit Hot 50 and #11 on Profit 500 (Top Young Entrepreneur Award 2014); currently ranked in the top 500 most visited websites in Canada. Buytopia is now a part of EMERGE e-commerce, a private company that has acquired and integrated 7 competitors within the span of two years and has acquired over $100M in assets including SHOP.CA, SHOP.US, Mighty Deals and WagJag.
Genevieve Roch-Decter, CFA is co-Chief Executive Officer of Grit Capital, a strategic advisory and consulting company focussed on corporate development, investor relations and investing in private and public companies. The company has taken a leadership role – advising, investing and educating – in the Blockchain sector in North America. Genevieve was previously a Portfolio Manager and Analyst for LDIC Inc., a $600M asset management company based in Toronto. While there, she spearheaded the launch of three specialized funds, raised nearly $100M in assets and managed for 7 years the Redwood Global Small Cap Fund – which was the best performing small cap fund in Canada in 2009, 2010 and 2014 as ranked by Globe Funds – the fund returned over 150% to investors (13% CAGR) from 2008 to 2015. Genevieve has been featured in the Globe&Mail, National Post & Business News Network (BNN).
Christian Lunny is a generation Z creative leader and a born nonconformist entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of Musi, the tenth largest music streaming service with 2.5M monthly active users, consistently ranking in the top 100 in the Apple App Store for the past 2 years. He is also the founder of Dash Agency, a digital agency storytelling and building for the largest consumer brands across North America. Christian is also Marketing Magazine’s Top 30 Under 30 and Dash Agency was ranked by Canadian Business as one of the top 50 fastest growing startups in Canada.
Nathan Doctor is the Managing Partner of Synapse Capital, a crypto asset fund that invests in projects foundational to the cryptocurrency ecosystem. The partnership has generated consistently high alpha and invested early in many top 50 cryptocurrencies. Nathan is simultaneously the CEO and Co-Founder of Qualified.io, a rapidly growing platform for assessing engineering skills, that counts Apple and Glencore among it’s clients. The company began when Nathan launched Codewars.com, a developer community where over 700,000 engineers train their coding skills. Both platforms now support cryptocurrency technologies, enabling developers to train into the field and companies to accurately assess them. All of these pursuits stem from Nathan’s understanding of systems design, which is core to his investment approach. Nathan loves adventure, is a photographer and artist, and in the past began a non-profit, which became the subject of his TEDx speech.
Nicole Marchand is the co-Chief Executive Officer of Grit Capital and has vast capital markets experience including roles in institutional sales, investor relations and investment banking. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. She is the founder and Chair of Love Puppies, a non for profit to end puppy mills in Canada. Nicole Marchand has been specializing in investor relations for the last decade with experience in institutional sales and investment banking from firms including Blair Franklin Capital Partners, Scotia Capital, Auburn Partners, Fraser Mackenzie and Premier Royalty.
Matt Slater is a tech entrepreneur, investor and advisor to various startups and cryptocurrency companies. Currently Managing Partner at Synapse Capital – a hybrid venture/hedge fund investing in blockchain based assets and protocols. After discovering bitcoin in 2013, Matt co-founded Hedgy in early 2014. Hedgy raised $1.2M from investors including Tim Draper and Marc Benioff to build one of the first decentralized smart contract exchanges on bitcoin and later Ethereum. Hedgy worked with bitcoin miners to help them hedge against bitcoin price risk. An early advocate and adopter of smart contracts, Matt has consulted and spoke at organizations including the Coala Global Blockchain Workshop, The Institute of Liberty and Democracy, Hult International Business School and various cryptocurrency conferences. Matt earned his FINRA Series 65 in 2017.
